SENIOR FITNESS RX CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

New; Dance for the young at heart; This class is for those fifty-plus young at heart, and full of enthusiasm. This class is designed with a recreational approach, meant to be absolutely non-straining or physically demanding. Focused on movements that improve range of motion in the joints, plus basic footwork and poses that aid balance and self-confidence on daily activity.

 

ZUMBA GOLD – Dance your way to vibrant health - Put on your aerobic shoes, bring a bottle of water and join us! Zumba Gold is the beginner's level of aerobic dance which breaks down the intricate step-work of Zumba Basic. It’s perfect for anyone just starting out in Zumba fitness!

 

Fifty Plus Aerobics is very easy so anyone at any age will be able to follow along. Dances that may be highlighted in this program include the Merengue, Salsa Cha Cha, Cumbia, Salsa, Rock & Roll (including Twist and Charleston), Belly Dance, Flamenco, and Tango.

 

FIFTY PLUS FITNESS FUSION

Fusion of yoga, weight training and pilates based toning to maximize your fat burning, especially around the waist. Please bring a mat to class for floor work.

Qigong is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy (qi). Qigong practice leads to better health and vitality and a tranquil mind.

 

Yoga for 50 years plus

This restorative and healing beginning yoga class is good for those suffering from chronic pain, and includes a floor series, meditation and guided imagery. This class is great for recuperating from an illness or trauma, or for simply melting away muscle tension. Please bring a yoga mat.

 

Chair Yoga:

Seated yoga is ideal for those in rehabilitation, and the physically challenged. This class will introduce you to a series of yoga stretches, all done in your chair. You never need to stand up to reap the benefits of yoga.

The instructor guides you to mindfully relax, rhythmically breathe and stretch with increased flexibility. Strengthen body-mind-spirit.

PILATES FOR 50+ focuses on exercises for people over the age of 50, providing a series of routines that focus on the back, abs, thighs, waist, hips, and butt. A fun and easy-to-follow intro to Pilates. Please bring a mat- or purchase for $25

Improve your odds for good health! One of the keys to life is to keep moving, especially as we age. This safe, enjoyable and easy-to-do fitness program is designed specifically for older adults and seniors. You move at your own pace during this class which includes stretching and strengthening, improving balance and posture, techniques for relaxation and breathing, and rebuilding and maintaining a healthy back. It's fitness for the de-conditioned adult 50 years plus.

 

Yoga for beginners, fifty years plus

A gentle approach to fitness through Yoga. Stretch to develop correct body alignment along with balance, flexibility and concentration. Participants must be ambulatory and able to get up and down from the floor unassisted. Please bring a yoga mat.

 

Gentle Tai Chi for Seniors

Tai Chi is a popular form of fitness training that improves balance, muscle tone, flexibility as well as increases mental fitness. By calming the mind, you can enhance memory, increase alertness and focus, experience muscle relaxation, develop a sense of inner peace, reduce physical, emotional and mental stress, and heighten spatial awareness. This class is perfect for beginners.

TAI CHI An ancient Chinese practice that helps the student to discipline their mind and body. A slow motion relaxation, moving meditation that helps the student gain greater physical flexibility, strength, and balance. T'ai Chi also teaches control over the breath, discipline over the mind, and awareness of the chi, making the practice a holistic approach to health and life.

The enjoyable classes use both standing and seated exercises, music, and are designed to suit you and your needs. In addition to helping you to become more physically active, the classes are a great way to get out and meet new friends. The classes are led by a certified instructor.
